Lapis Lazuli is easily identified from Sodalite by the gold flakes in the Lapis. 

This stone was especially prized by the ancient Egyptians for its resemblance to the twilight or night sky filled with stars. Lapis Lazuli has been used since around 4000 bce. Later during the medieval periods, this stone was used to create the ultramarine blue pigments found in paintings that grace the cathedrals and chapels across Europe and the Near East.
