How to View It

Double the Display:

You can see the Sturgeon Moon appear fully round and rise in the eastern sky at dusk on both Saturday, August 9, and Sunday, August 10.

Best Viewing:

The best time to see the full moon rise is right after sunset, when it is fully lit and the sky is still bright enough to see the landscape in front of it.

Timing:

The peak occurs just before sunrise on Saturday, meaning the full moon will be visible in the early morning hours before it sets.

Traditional Names:

The name "Sturgeon Moon" is derived from sturgeon fish, which were abundant in the Great Lakes during this late summer month.
